Season Two

We’re back for our second season of Small Screen Science! Explore the episodes that we’ve got coming up in autumn 2020. Meet the experts we interviewed, the myths we debunked and delve deeper into some of the fascinating science that we uncovered along the way!

S2 Ep 1. Blue Planet II: Blue-chip Science

We’re pulling out the big guns to start series two! We have a science comedian and a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning guest on this week, as we pull apart the science behind nature documentaries and Blue Planet II!

Swim with us through the worlds of cute and ugly animals, and putting conservation tales on screen. Plus, as it’s the International Year of Sound, we’re talking about the science of sound and how noise (recorded and created) is a HUGE part of nature documentaries.

S2 Ep 2. The Walking Dead: Apocalypse Science

Just in time for Halloween, we’re comparing our zombie apocalypse plans while we digest the Walking Dead - one of the most popular and longest-running zombie shows on TV!

Our guests for this episode help us explore the evidence of zombie fears and folklore in our own history by looking at human burials, and exploring how viruses and pandemics can spread through a global population. (Sounds familiar these days, right?)

S2 Ep3. Most Haunted: Spooky Science

Ready for our most Spooktacular episode ever? This week we visit the UK’s oldest and most haunted prison in search of ghosts. Tune in to discover what we found!

When you’re talking about the paranormal and the science behind ghosts ‘who ya gonna call?’ Chris French, our ghostbusting expert this week is the professor behind the ‘Haunt’ project; an attempt to build a haunted room.

S2 Ep 4. Breaking Bad: Walter White Science

We might be a far cry from a home-made meth lab in a caravan in the desert, but we’re speaking to someone much closer to the Breaking Bad action in this episode - we’re joined by Donna Nelson, the scientific advisor to the show!

Have you ever wondered whether the meth labs created are accurate? Or if you could REALLY dissolve a body in a bath of acid? Well, then this is the episode for you!

S2 Ep 5. Stranger Things: Upside-down science

Join us in the upside-down as we explore other dimensions and conspiracy theories.

This week we talk to a psychologist about the science behind conspiracy theories and a professor of philosophy of physics about alternative dimensions.

Ep 6. Great Pottery Throw Down: Kiln-fired Science

We try our hand at one of the oldest crafts in the world, and talk to people who know much more about ceramics than we do!

Did you know Johnny Vegas has a piece of pottery at the V & A museum? Did you know ceramics are used in space exploration and jet engines?

This week we talk to an artist and the President of the European Ceramics Society.

Kiln you believe it’s the last episode of the series?
